Jean-Pierre Petit est un scientifique français, né le 5 avril 1937 à Choisy-le-Roi. Il a été directeur de recherches au Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS), spécialiste en mécanique des fluides, physique des plasmas et magnétohydrodynamique (MHD). Il est surtout connu auprès du grand public pour ses ouvrages de vulgarisation scientifique, par ses livres, la série des bandes dessinés Anselme Lanturlu (tous présentant ses travaux scientifiques) ainsi que ses recherches dans le domaine de l'ufologie et particulièrement sa participation à l'affaire Ummo, dont il a été le principal vulgarisateur au travers de ses livres. Né à Choisy-le-Roi de Bernard Lévy et d'Andrée Christine Petit. À l'issue de ses études secondaires effectuées au lycée Carnot de Paris, il obtient le baccalauréat et entre en classe préparatoire scientifique au lycée Condorcet. Il intègre alors Supaéro où il se passionne pour la mécanique des fluides. Il obtient son diplôme d'ingénieur en 1961.

Acoustics of Fluid Media 1 is intended for undergraduate students and engineering students, as well as graduate students and professionals in the industry who are increasingly faced with the need to consider acoustic constraints in the design of new products. The physical principles and theoretical foundations of acoustics in fluids are first developed, including reflection and refraction of plane and spherical waves. The book then introduces notions of signal processing applied to sound waves, followed by radiation from surface or volume acoustic sources and the use of Green's functions, as well as the description of diffraction and scattering phenomena. The final chapters are devoted to sound propagation in ducts and room acoustics. Each chapter is accompanied by a limited number of exercises, ranging from the simple application of formulas to problems requiring a more advanced theoretical analysis or a numerical solution. Throughout the book, the theoretical results are illustrated with numerous figures obtained from measurements or numerical simulations resulting from the evaluation of complex formulas or from the use of a finite element solver.

Theory of Multipole Fluctuation Mediated Superconductivity and Multipole Phase

A strong spin-orbit interaction and Coulomb repulsion featuring strongly correlated d- and f-electron systems lead to various exotic phase transition including unconventional superconductivity and magnetic multipole order. However, their microscopic origins are long standing problem since they could not be explained based on conventional Migdal-Eliashberg theorem.The book focuses on many-body correlation effects beyond conventional theory for the d- and f-electron systems, and theoretically demonstrates the correlations to play significant roles in "mode-coupling" among multiple quantum fluctuations, which is called U-VC here. The following key findings are described in-depth: (i) spin triplet superconductivity caused by U-VC, (ii) being more important U-VC in f-electron systems due to magnetic multipole degrees of freedom induced by a spin-orbit interaction, and (iii) s-wave superconductivity stabilized cooperatively by antiferromagnetic fluctuations and electron-phonon interaction contrary to conventional understanding. The book provides meaningful step for revealing essential roles of many-body e¿ects behind long standing problems in strongly correlated materials.

Notwithstanding her collective-fat, Black female- identity she catapulted into mainstream success while redefining the social script for body size, race, and gender. This book explores a tale of two narratives: Lizzo's self-curated, fat-positive identity and the media's reaction to an unabashedly proud fat, Black woman. This critical analysis examines how Lizzo challenges fatphobia and reconstitutes fat stigmatization into self-empowerment through her strategic use of hyper-embodiment via social media, and the rhetorical distinctions between Lizzo's self-curated narrative via social media and those offered about her in print media. In part, Lizzo's bodily flaunting is argued as a significant rhetorical act that emancipates her identity of fatness and reframes the negative tropes of (fat) Black women typically curated in American culture.
