Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2021 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Neuere Deutsche Literatur, Note: 1,0, Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Dem Kriminalroman liegt die zentrale Frage nach der Identität des Mörders zugrunde, das "Whodunit¿. Auf der Suchbewegung nach einer Antwort auf diese Frage geraten die Ermittelnden und mit ihnen die Lesenden immer wieder auch auf falsche Fährten bzw. "red herrings", die sie nicht direkt zur Auflösung des Kriminalfalles führen. Auch in den beiden Romanen "The Hound of the Baskervilles" von Arthur Conan Doyle und "Maigret und der gelbe Hund von Georges" Simenon werden mit dem flüchtigen Mörder Selden und dem Landstreicher Léon Le Guérec Figuren präsentiert, die schon auf den ersten Blick verdächtig erscheinen dürften, obwohl sie nicht die gesuchten Täter sind. Sie erinnern an den Typus des "geborenen Verbrechers¿, der in der Atavismustheorie Cesare Lombrosos beschrieben wird.Die vorliegende Arbeit beleuchtet Parallelen zur Atavismustheorie in der Darstellung der Figuren und Ansätze der Emanzipation. Zudem wird untersucht, inwiefern diese Darstellung für die Funktion der Figuren als "red herring" eine Rolle spielt.
