    As It Was

"As It Was" is a deeply personal and evocative memoir by Helen Thomas, offering an intimate glimpse into her life and her marriage to the celebrated poet Edward Thomas. Written with lyrical intensity and remarkable honesty, the narrative captures the complexities of their relationship, from the early days of their courtship to the challenges and joys of their shared existence. The work is celebrated for its frankness and its vivid portrayal of the natural world, reflecting themes that dominated her husband's own poetic output. Through Thomas's eyes, readers are transported to the English countryside and into the heart of a literary partnership marked by both profound devotion and internal struggles. This memoir serves as a vital companion to the study of Edward Thomas's poetry, providing essential context for the man behind the verses while standing alone as a powerful testament to love and resilience. "As It Was" remains a poignant exploration of a woman's perspective within a notable literary circle of the early twentieth century, capturing the essence of a bygone era with sensitivity and grace. 7. Begin Again. Fail Better

    Begin Again. Fail Better

Begin Again. Fail Better: Preliminary Drawings in Architecture engages with one of the principal activities of the architect in the process of design: drawing by hand. It explores the act of designing through a focus on beginnings. Architects try, fail, try again, fail better until they start to move in the direction that ultimately becomes a building-or not. This book brings together 199 preliminary architecture drawings. More than 50 contemporary Swiss architecture firms each contributed two pieces that reveal something of their individual approach and understanding of architecture. This selection is enhanced by historical works by Swiss and European architects that come from four significant British and Swiss archival collections, dating from the 20th and back to the 16th century. The illustrations are complemented by essays providing a critical and historical framework, as well as a conversation engaging with the conditions and importance of failure within the design process. Brief interludes by international architects, archivists and teachers, introducing a range of perspectives, round out this beautiful volume.

    Murder on Easey Street

SUMMER IN MELBOURNE,1977. TWO YOUNG WOMEN ARE VICIOUSLY MURDERED. THE KILLER HAS NEVER BEEN FOUND.Forty-five years ago, Suzanne Armstrong and Susan Bartlett were fatally stabbed in their home on Easey Street, Collingwood, while Suzanne's toddler slept in his cot. Their murder remains one of the most infamous unsolved cold cases in Australia.Helen Thomas was a young journalist at The Age when the murders were committed and saw how deeply they affected the city. More than four decades later, she's still looking at the case - chasing down new leads and talking, again, to the women's families, friends and neighbours. What emerges is a portrait of a crime rife with ambiguities and contradictions, which took place at a fascinating time in the city's history, in one of its most notorious suburbs. Why has the Easey Street murderer never been found, despite the million-dollar reward for information leading to an arrest? Did the women know their killer, or were their deaths due to a random, frenzied attack? Could the murderer have killed again? This gripping and updated account addresses these questions and more as it sheds new light on one of Australia's most disturbing and compelling criminal mysteries.
