Oscar Pettiford (30 September 1922 - 8 September 1960) was an American jazz double bassist, cellist and composer known particularly for his pioneering work in bebop. Pettiford was born at Okmulgee, Oklahoma; his mother was Choctaw and his father was half Cherokee and half African American. Like many people with African American and Native American ancestry, his Native heritage was not generally known except to a few close friends, such as David Amram.

Oktober 1952 in New York City) ist eine US-amerikanische Jazz-Flötistin. Ryerson íst Tochter des Gitarristen Art Ryerson, der als Studiomusiker in New York u.a. mit Charlie Parker arbeitete. Sie hatte eine klassische Musikausbildung am Hartt College der University of Hartford, wo sie sich mit Jazz beschäftigte und 1979 den Bachelor erwarb. Im Laufe ihrer Karriere spielte sie sowohl im Bereich des Jazz als auch der klassischen Musik, wie etwa mit dem Monterey Bay Symphony und Luciano Pavarotti.

Calloway was a master of energetic scat singing and led one of the United States' most popular African American big bands from the start of the 1930s through the late 1940s. Calloway's band featured performers including trumpeters Dizzy Gillespie and Adolphus "Doc" Cheatham, saxophonists Ben Webster and Leon "Chu" Berry, New Orleans guitar ace Danny Barker, and bassist Milt Hinton. Calloway continued to perform until his death in 1994 at the age of 86
