Villa del Balbianello

The Villa del Balbianello is a villa in the comune of Lenno (province of Como), Italy, overlooking Lake Como. It is located on the tip of a small wooded peninsula on the western shore of the south-west branch of Lake Como, not far from the Isola Comacina and is famous for its elaborate terraced gardens. The villa was built in 1787 on the site of a Franciscan monastery for the Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini. The two towers which can be seen in the picture are the campanili of the convent church. After the cardinal's death in 1796 Giuseppe Arconati Visconti bought the villa and made improvements to its gardens and the loggia.

Saluzzo is a town and former principality in the province of Cuneo, Piedmont region, Italy. The city of Saluzzo is built on a hill overlooking a vast, well-cultivated plain. Iron, lead, silver, marble, slate etc. are found in the surrounding mountains. It has a population of approximately 16,000. Saluzzo was the birthplace of Silvio Pellico and of typographer Giambattista Bodoni. Saluzzo was a civitas (tribal city state) of the Vagienni, or mountain Ligures, and later of the Salluvii. This district was brought under Roman control by the Consul Marcus Fulvius. In the Carlovingian age it became the residence of a count; later, having passed to the Marquesses of Susa, Manfred I, son of Marquess Bonifacio del Vasto, on the division of that principality became Marquess of Saluzzo; this family held the marquisate of Saluzzo from 1142 to 1548.

Januar 1822 in Cividale del Friuli, Friaul; ¿ 8. Oktober 1906 in Turin) war eine Schauspielerin. Ristori war die Tochter eines Schauspielerpaares und trat bereits als Kind mit ihren Eltern auf. Ihren ersten größeren Erfolg erzielte sie um 1835 in der Hauptrolle von Francesca da Rimini (Silvio Pellico). Um 1840 schloss sich Ristori in Parma dem herzoglichen Ensemble an und hatte dort auch als Maria Stuart (Friedrich Schiller) ihren künstlerischen Durchbruch. 1847 heiratete Ristori den Marchese Giuliano Capranica del Grillo. Mit ihm hatte sie einen Sohn: Marquese Giorgio Capranica del Grillo. Bis 1850 pausierte sie und widmete sich in diesen Jahren nur ihrer Familie. Ab Herbst 1850 ging Ristori wieder auf Tournee und machte damit ihrer Kollegin Rachel Felix Konkurrenz.
