Birds, Beasts and a World Made New

A wonderful parallel anthology and introduction to two poets, both so much more. They are the short-lived, playful, and visionary greats of Modernism: the Frenchman Guillaume Apollinaire and the Russian Velimir Khlebnikov. The translations are splendid and full of life, the context brisk, plain and simply sketched in. This is a book for discovery, for pleasure and delight

    Russian Futurism

Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Russian Futurism is the term used to denote a group of Russian poets and artists who adopted the principles of Marinetti's manifesto. Russian futurism may be said to have been born in December 1912, when the Moscow-based group Hylaea (Russian: ¿¿¿¿¿ [Gileya]) (founded in 1910 by David Burlyuk and his brothers at their estate near Kherson and quickly joined by Vasily Kamensky and Velimir Khlebnikov, Aleksey Kruchenykh and Vladimir Mayakovsky joining in 1911) issued a manifesto entitled A Slap in the Face of Public Taste. Although Hylaea is generally held to be the most influential group of Russian Futurism, other centres were formed in St. Petersburg (Igor Severyanin's Ego-Futurists), Moscow (Tsentrifuga, with Boris Pasternak among its members), Kiev, Kharkov, and Odessa.

Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Zaum (Russian: ¿¿¿¿¿ or ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿) is a word used to describe the linguistic experiments in sound symbolism and language creation of Russian Futurist poets such as Velimir Khlebnikov and Aleksei Kruchenykh.Coined by Kruchenykh in 1913, the word zaum is made up of the Russian prefix ¿¿ "beyond, behind" and noun ¿¿ "the mind, nous" and has been translated as "transreason" or "beyonsense" (Paul Schmidt). According to scholar Gerald Janecek, zaum can be defined as experimental poetic language characterized by indeterminacy in meaning. As Kruchenykh has it, zaum is a transrational language, "wild, flaming, explosive (wild paradise, fiery languages, blazing coal)," which awakens creative imagination from the manacles of everyday speech. Zaum "can provide a universal poetic language, born organically, and not artificially like Esperanto."

    Velimir Khlebnikov

Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Velimir Khlebnikov (Russian: ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿; first name also spelled Velemir; last name also spelled Chlebnikov, Hlebnikov, Xlebnikov), pseudonym of Viktor Vladimirovich Khlebnikov (9 November 1885 (28 October 1885 (O.S.)) - 28 June 1922), was a central part of the Russian Futurist movement, but his work and influence stretch far beyond it. Khlebnikov belonged to the most significant Russian Futurist group Hylaea (along with Vladimir Mayakovsky, Aleksei Kruchenykh, David Burliuk, and Benedikt Livshits), but had already written many significant poems before the Futurist movement in Russia had taken shape. Among his contemporaries, he was regarded as "a poet's poet" (Mayakovsky referred to him as a "poet for producers") and a maverick genius.

"Troe" is a rare collection of early 20th-century Russian Futurist poetry and artwork by Velimir Khlebnikov, A. Kruchenykh, Elena Guro, and Kazimir Malevich. Published in 1913, this anthology represents the avant-garde movement's bold experimentation with language, form, and visual aesthetics. The collection exemplifies the spirit of innovation that characterized the Silver Age of Russian literature and art. "Troe" is significant for its influence on subsequent generations of poets and artists, offering insight into the radical artistic landscape of pre-revolutionary Russia.
