Theo Slot, Pander & De Schelde
Hollands vernuft in de luchtNaast Nederlandsche Vliegtuigenfrabriek ('Fokker') en Koolhoven zijn er voor de Tweede Wereldoorlog meer vliegtuigenfabrieken en ontwerpers actief in Nederland. Een van de minder bekende ontwerpers is Theo Slot (1895-1949), die vliegtuigen ontwerpt voor H. Pander & Zonen en N.V. Koninklijke Maatschappij De Schelde. Met zijn ontwerpen drukt hij een duidelijke en eigen stempel op de ontwikkeling van de vliegtuigbouw in Nederland. Hij introduceert meerdere innovaties die later door andere Nederlandse vliegtuigbouwers worden overgenomen. Slot mag met recht de vernieuwer van de vooroorlogse Nederlandse luchtvaartindustrie worden genoemd. Daarnaast staat hij aan de wieg van de sportvliegerij in ons land. Slot is vooral bekend geworden door de Pander S.4 Postjager of, preciezer, door de pech die dit vliegtuig heeft achtervolgd. Dit doet geen recht aan zijn bijdragen aan de vooroorlogse Nederlandse vliegtuigsector. H. Pander & Zonen en N.V. Koninklijke Maatschappij De Schelde geven hem en zijn team de ruimte om noviteiten te ontwikkelen en uit te voeren. Zo ontwerpt Slot met de Pander E het eerste Nederlandse lesvliegtuig. Veel sportvliegers behalen voor de Tweede Wereldoorlog hun vliegbrevet op dit vliegtuig. De Schelde S.21 is zijn laatste gebouwde ontwerp waarvan de bouw bijna is afgerond op het moment van de Duitse inval op 10 mei 1940. Het is een futuristisch ogend gevechtsvliegtuig met een w-vormige vleugel, een cabine die bijna geheel bestaat uit glas, een duwpropellor en een dubbele staart. Met dit boek krijgen Theo Slot, H. Pander & Zonen en N.V. Koninklijke Maatschappij De Schelde het eerbetoon dat ze verdienen voor hun bijdrage aan de Nederlandse luchtvaart voor de Tweede Wereldoorlog.

The Aylesbury and Buckingham Railway (A&BR) was an English railway located in Buckinghamshire, England operating between Aylesbury and Verney Junction. Granborough Road railway station was a station serving the village of Granborough, to the north of Quainton in Buckinghamshire, England. The station was first served in 1868 and closed in 1936. It was the third station north of Aylesbury on the section of the Metropolitan Railway between Aylesbury and Verney Junction that was abandoned when the Metropolitan Railway became the Metropolitan Line in 1936 when it was subsumed into London Transport. London Underground continued to run services as far as Aylesbury until 1961 after which point the terminus became Amersham.

The Cessna Model DC-6 was a 1920s American high-wing four-seat tourer built by the Cessna Aircraft Company. Used by the United States Army Air Corps as the UC-77/UC-77A. The DC-6 was a scaled-down four-seat version of the six-seat Cessna CW-6. It was rolled out in February 1929 and went into production in two versions the DC-6A and DC-6B. Both versions gained type certificates in September 1929. The depression and Wall Street crash reduced demand for the aircraft and only just over 20 of each model were produced. Some aircraft were taken on charge by the USAAC in 1942.
