Creating Digital Exhibitions

This book provides both in-depth theoretical discussions and practical, step-by-step approaches to creating virtual exhibitions in museums.

The field of digital imaging has grown immensely since then and this book brings us up to date. The modern museum can learn not only how, but why to create virtual exhibits, and to consider the implications of them. I am thrilled that this book focuses on the small- to mid-sized museums with limited budgets. As one of the authors notes, visitors still value the ‘real thing’ more than the digital object, but the virtual exhibit can provide a deeper look into not only an object, but an entire topic.

Striking a delicate balance between theory and practice, this valuable collection will assist museums and museum workers of all types as they endeavor to design and develop digital exhibits that meet their needs and the needs of their visitors.

Zida Wang is the Manager of Community Engagement and Outreach at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art and has a Ph.D. in Museum Education and Visitor-Centered Curation from Florida State University. His publications include articles in The International Journal of the Inclusive Museum and a chapter in Dimensions of Curation . He co-created the exhibits " The Art of Bonding " and " Apart/Together ".
Morgan Joseph Hamilton , Ph.D., is the Gretchen Hupfel Curator of Contemporary Art at The Delaware Contemporary. His dissertation, Certain Professionals in an Uncertain Field during Uncertain Times (2024) , for the Museum Education and Visitor-Centered Curation program at Florida State University studied the effects of digital programming on art museum educators' experiences during the crisis.
