Makis Malafekas studied art history and social anthropology. He presented seminars at the Sorbonne on the history of European comics, and worked at the School of Fine Arts in Paris. He has written articles for Eleftherotypia's "9", Libération, Lifo and others. Deepfake is the third in the series of/by Michalis Krokos, after De les kouventa (Ink 2018) and Mesakti (Ink 2020). Makis lives and works in Brussels and Athens.

Jenny Steel was born in South London in 1980. After taking a first-class degree with distinction in Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies (Arabic and Farsi) at Cambridge University, she won a competitive full scholarship to study International Affairs at Sciences Po, Paris. She proceeded to make use of her language skills working in radio journalism at the BBC, NGOs (West Africa and the Middle East), and the UK diplomatic service, which included a posting to Afghanistan. Her creative career began with working as a freelance translator in 2014, alongside training at the London International School of Performing Arts. She has finished her first crime novel, Common Charges, in 2025, under the name of Jay King. Jenny is a resident of Athens.
