Beschrijving
An unnerving found-footage cult horror from one of Britain’s most cinematic storytellers.
Taking its cue from real-life cults
Last Days
is
an effectively creepy novel
that will leave you sleeping with the lights on
His previous novel was the superb
The Ritual
, but with
Last Days
he's gone one better. This is riveting, and
Nevill is fast becoming Britain's answer to Stephen King
There are books that spark the imagination.
Last Days
lit a bonfire.
Spooky, eerie delight
. This one made me perk up at unfamiliar noises and to examine the shadows a little more closely. Nevill should be ranked up near masters like Lovecraft and Clark Ashton Smith. This is what a horror book should be
Horror fans will revel in this appropriately
chilling
tale of modern-day murder and mayhem that stretches back several centuries . . . This appropriately
ghastly
tale definitely lives up to its billing as a Blair Witch Project–style novel
Obsession and megalomania, sex and power make for
a sophisticated, literate and well-crafted paranormal horror
This
exceptional macabre tale
stuns in its ability to inspire abject, primal terror. Readers will lose all hope of peaceful, undisturbed sleep. Highly recommended
Fans of films about haunted places, otherworldly beings, and rituals gone terribly wrong will find this homage
deliciously chilling
All I can say is, wow. What an amazing book.
Last Days
has just about everything I look for in a horror novel; it is well crafted, has a strong plot with believable characters and
the horror sequences get under your skin and into your mind
. And the images just won’t go away. You’ll find yourself replaying scenes in your mind for days
In
Last Days
, Adam Nevill has managed to create a fusion of the Charles Manson mystique, the occult and a found footage documentary that is both
a magnificent and gripping read
from the very first page
Overall the supernatural elements are convincing and you are drawn into the story to the extent that you’re biting your nails on one hand whilst turning the pages with the other. The horror, whilst terrifying, is not overly grotesque and is just about on the right side of dark to be universally popular. So what we are left with is another strong offering from Nevill which
will leave you reading nervously into the small hours of the night
This is not a novel for the faint-of-heart or those averse to disturbing subject matter. It does, however, reward avid horror fans with
an engrossing mystery and memorable scares
Not everyone enjoys horror stories, but for those that do read
Last Days
and afterwards look for more of the same from Adam Nevill who surely has the knack of creating undertones of chilling terror in an
engrossing book
Adam L. G. Nevill was born in Birmingham, England, in 1969 and grew up in England and New Zealand. He is the author of the horror novels
Banquet for the Damned
,
Apartment 16
,
The Ritual
,
Last Days
,
House of Small Shadows
,
No One Gets Out Alive
,
Lost Girl
and
Under a Watchful Eye
. His first short-story collection,
Some Will Not Sleep: Selected Horrors
, was published on Halloween, 2016.
His novels
The Ritual
,
Last Days
and
No One Gets Out Alive
were the winners of The August Derleth Award for Best Horror Novel.
The Ritual
and
Last Days
were also awarded Best in Category: Horror, by R.U.S.A. Many of his novels are currently in development for film and television, and in 2016 Imaginarium adapted
The Ritual
into a feature film.
Adam lives in Devon, England.
