Half a Dark Heart
Haunting, atmospheric and suspenseful, Half A Dark Heart is a completely captivating gothic mystery. I haven’t been swept away by a book like this in a long time and I don’t think I’ve ever had so much fun being utterly terrified.

Alleen in Berlijn

Ways of the Mind
"Ways of the Mind: The Study and Use of Psychology" is an insightful exploration of the human psyche, designed to bridge the gap between theoretical psychological research and its practical application in daily life. Henry Foster Adams examines the intricate workings of the mind, focusing on how individuals perceive, reason, and react to their environment. The work delves into fundamental concepts such as memory, habit formation, emotion, and the development of personality, providing readers with a foundational understanding of behavioral science. Beyond mere theory, the book emphasizes the utility of psychology in personal and professional spheres. Adams argues that by understanding the "ways of the mind," individuals can better navigate social interactions, improve educational outcomes, and achieve greater self-awareness. This text serves as a significant example of early 20th-century psychological thought, reflecting the shift toward functionalism and the desire to make science accessible and useful to the general public. It remains a valuable resource for those interested in the history of psychology and the timeless quest to understand human nature. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. The New Balkans
"The New Balkans" offers a comprehensive and penetrating analysis of the geopolitical landscape in Southeastern Europe during the critical decade following the First World War. Written by Hamilton Fish Armstrong, a leading authority on international relations and long-time editor of Foreign Affairs, this work examines the profound transformations that reshaped the Balkan Peninsula after the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman empires. The author provides a detailed exploration of the newly formed and restructured states, including Yugoslavia, Albania, Bulgaria, Romania, and Greece, navigating the complex web of ethnic rivalries, territorial disputes, and diplomatic maneuvers that defined the era. Through a series of insightful essays, Armstrong addresses the pressing questions of regional stability and the influence of Great Power politics on the "powder keg of Europe." The book delves into specific flashpoints such as the Fiume question, the status of Bessarabia, and the internal challenges facing young nations as they struggled to consolidate their sovereignty. "The New Balkans" serves as an essential primary source for understanding the historical roots of 20th-century European conflict and the evolution of international diplomacy in a region marked by persistent volatility. This volume remains a vital resource for historians, political scientists, and anyone seeking to grasp the intricate history of the Balkan states. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
