Zakelijk bericht over het geluk een morfinist te zijn (set 5 exemplaren)

'Al zeven jaar lig ik aan de ketenen van de verslaving, nu eens morfine, dan weer cocane, ether, alcohol. Sanatoriums, gekkenhuizen en leven in vrijheid, gevangen in mijn verslaving, losten elkaar af.' Fallada schreef lucide en met spartaanse soberheid over zijn verslaving. Voortdurend onderweg, om geld en 'het spul' te organiseren, ziet de nietsontziende observator Fallada zijn alter ego op de meest pijnlijke manier ontsporen, nooit verlegen om slimme voorwendsels en gekke smoesjes, leugens en zelfbedrog. Hoe nuchter en zakelijk, op het bureaucratische af, Fallada een verslaafde en zijn verslaving neerzet, is huiveringwekkend. Net als in zijn gevangenisdagboek In mijn vreemde land slaagt hij erin zichzelf als onderzoeksobject te zien, zonder pardon of medelijden. Het is vooral deze houding die Zakelijk bericht over het geluk een morfinist te zijn tot een klein meesterwerk maakt, ongevenaard in de literatuur van het zelfonderzoek. Als alles in het leven dag in dag uit alleen maar over 'het spul' gaat, als de methodes om het te verwerven steeds vernederender worden, als recepten gestolen, vluchtroutes bedacht en vrienden bedrogen moeten worden, wordt plotseling iets heel anders ondraaglijk: het besef dat je iedere beschaving en alle fatsoen kwijt bent.
