Climate Change, Healthcare, and Sustainable Development in Asia
This book looks at the multiple ways in which climate change contributes negative impacts on the healthcare sector globally, posing a number of challenges to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In taking an integrative approach to the SDGs and their implementation in Asian healthcare, the book highlights the health consequences of biodiversity loss in the healthcare sector. The authors unpack how rising temperatures, extreme weather conditions, and altering rainfall patterns intensify current health-related threats that slowing progress towards SDG 3, focused on health and well-being. They delve into how disadvantaged, underserved, and marginalized populations, including the elderly, children, and low-income communities, face health risks, highlighting the need for inclusive strategies to achieve gender equality (SDG 5) and reduced inequalities (SDG 10) to promote equality movement and health equity. The book draws attention to how effective implementation and mitigation of climate change risk strategy are essential, including reducing economic inequalities (SDG 8) in rural and/or underdeveloped areas that caused the unequal distribution of healthcare resources and accelerating industry innovation (SDG 9) to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, resilient healthcare systems, and digital healthcare, thus establishing more sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11). Human health and wellness are intricately depending on biodiversity (SDG 14 and SDG 15) to provide well-functioning ecosystems, stabilize the climate, and limit diseases. The volume shows that integrating climate resilience into health policies, corporate strategy, and education planning, is essential for advancing the SDGs and safeguarding public health. Relevant to researchers and policymakers in public health, climate change, and the SDGs, this is a timely contribution to discussions on the challenges facing the SDGs implementation in Asia.

Verge: Studies in Global Asias is an award-winning peer-reviewed journal that showcases scholarship on “Asian” topics from across the humanities and humanistic social sciences, while recognizing that the changing scope of “Asia” as a concept and method is today an object of vital critical concern. Responding to the ways in which large-scale social, cultural, and economic concepts like the world, the globe, or the universal (not to mention East Asian cousins like tianxia or datong) are reshaping the ways we think about the present, the past and the future, the journal publishes scholarship that occupies and enlarges the proximities among disciplinary and historical fields, from the ancient to the modern periods. One of our main goals at Verge is to provide a critical space to think through the productive relations and generative discontinuities between Asian studies, Asian American studies, and Asian Diaspora studies. The journal publishes work from historians, literary and cultural scholars, sociologists, anthropologists, art historians, political scientists, and others that engages with the ways in which “globalization” requires us to understand the past, present, and futures of Asia. In doing so, the journal emphasizes multidisciplinary engagement—a crossing and engagement of the disciplines that does not erase disciplinary differences but uses them to make possible new conversations and new models of critical engagement.

Global Asias
Tactics & Theories"Global Asias: Tactics & Theories is a visionary volume. It encourages all of us to imagine different approaches to our research, teaching, and writing while offering ways to think beyond disciplinary constraints." - Christopher Lee, University of British Columbia "Chen and Eubanks have put together an innovative, exploratory, almost experimental book. The contributors' orientations, research questions, areas, and methods parallel their insistence that Global Asias is a query, a method, an approach that exceeds traditional paradigms and disciplinary homes." - Nitasha Tamar Sharma, Northwestern University "This compendium represents a field outgrowing its initial founding to invite deep conversations with a broad audience. In the process, the book reimagines the new field of Global Asias and does so with passion, gravitas, and capaciousness. Its ‘dynamic praxis of engagement’ is nothing short of inspirational as it simultaneously speaks, shouts, prods, and challenges with richly seductive possibilities." - Christine R. Yano, University of Hawai‘i
