Tianqiutao Chen received an MFA in Photography and an MA in Art + Design Education from the Rhode Island School of Design. Currently, Chen is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Art and Art History Department at Auburn University in Auburn, AL, USA.  Chen’s work has been exhibited widely, including at the Griffin Museum of Photography, Figge Art Museum, Center for Photography at Woodstock, Photographic Center Northwest, Modern Art Oxford, DongGang International Photo Festival, and Copenhagen Photo Festival, among others. His work was selected for the 2022 Critical Mass Top 50 and made the winners shortlist for the Projects & Portfolios section of the 2025 URBAN Photo Awards. His photobook won the Lucie Photo Book Prize for the Independent Publishing Category.

Climate Change, Healthcare, and Sustainable Development in Asia

This book looks at the multiple ways in which climate change contributes negative impacts on the healthcare sector globally, posing a number of challenges to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In taking an integrative approach to the SDGs and their implementation in Asian healthcare, the book highlights the health consequences of biodiversity loss in the healthcare sector. The authors unpack how rising temperatures, extreme weather conditions, and altering rainfall patterns intensify current health-related threats that slowing progress towards SDG 3, focused on health and well-being. They delve into how disadvantaged, underserved, and marginalized populations, including the elderly, children, and low-income communities, face health risks, highlighting the need for inclusive strategies to achieve gender equality (SDG 5) and reduced inequalities (SDG 10) to promote equality movement and health equity. The book draws attention to how effective implementation and mitigation of climate change risk strategy are essential, including reducing economic inequalities (SDG 8) in rural and/or underdeveloped areas that caused the unequal distribution of healthcare resources and accelerating industry innovation (SDG 9) to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, resilient healthcare systems, and digital healthcare, thus establishing more sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11). Human health and wellness are intricately depending on biodiversity (SDG 14 and SDG 15) to provide well-functioning ecosystems, stabilize the climate, and limit diseases. The volume shows that integrating climate resilience into health policies, corporate strategy, and education planning, is essential for advancing the SDGs and safeguarding public health. Relevant to researchers and policymakers in public health, climate change, and the SDGs, this is a timely contribution to discussions on the challenges facing the SDGs implementation in Asia.

Bilge Nazli Altay earned her Doctorate in Paper and Printing Science at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, Michigan. She is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Packaging and Graphic Media Science at Rochester Institute of Technology. Her research interests include packaging and printing materials, ink-coating-substrate interactions, color management, coating and ink formulation, industrial and functional printing, flexible hybrid printed electronics, lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement. Dr. Burak Aksoy received his doctorate degree from Western Michigan University, Paper Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Imaging Department in 2004 and his MBA degree from Auburn University in 2005. He has been serving Auburn University since 2006. He is currently an Associate Research Professor at Forest Products Development Laboratory within CFWE of Auburn University. Dr. Burak Aksoy’s expertise and research interests are in the area of pulp and paper engineering, paper coatings, packaging solutions, biomass engineering, value added chemicals, products and materials from biomass, nano-cellulose applications and composites. He has been involved in several corporate or government sponsored research, technology development, and technology deployment projects. He is authored and co-authored about 40 publications in peer-reviewed journals and conferences. Ting Chen earned her Doctorate in Paper Engineering and Science at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, Michigan. She is currently a Senior Scientist at Kemira. She is a passionate packaging engineer with unique background in packaging science, paper engineering, and printing. Combining more than ten years' research and industrial experience in barrier coatings, fiber-based materials, plastic films, packaging and printing technologies.
