Omschrijving
From the 8th to the 10th century AD, Greek scientific and philosophical works were translated into Arabic. This work presents our knowledge of the vocabulary of the translations. Arranged by Arabic roots and their derivatives, the entries list the Greek equivalents and English definitions.
'It is a book that your library should be encouraged to buy - allowing space in shelf and budget for the next instalments as they appear, and gradually building up a solid, useful work of reference which should be of great benefit to all working in this field.' Penelope Johnstone, BRISMES, 1994. 'A Greek and Arabic Lexicon (GALex) is a really monumental work and an indispensable reference tool. It is the first systematic attempt to present in an analytical and rationalized way our knowledge on the vocabulary of the Greek scientific and philosophical works which were translated wholesale into Arabic from the eight to the tenth century A.D.' Journal of Oriental and African Studies, 1999.
