Covers the history of medieval Hebrew medicine, in particular Jewish women's medicine. This text examines the origins of medieval Jewish medicine in Muslim countries, the main Arabic and Judeo-Arabic texts, and the renaissance of Hebrew as a language of science in the 12th-15th centuries.

Ron Barkai teaches in the Department of General History of the University of Tel-Aviv. His recent publications include Les infortunes de Dinah (Paris, 1994), which deals with the concept of the female body in Jewish tradition and medicine.
