What is that message? It is that being a race car driver is challenging and very hard work. The euphoric feeling that successful drivers experience as the black and white checkered flag waves in the breeze pumps them up to do it all over again in the next up-coming race. I don’t really have much with the Formula One, or at least the races (too boring + too much noise, even on tv), I just love the cars and love seeing new cars pop up in the world with each new race. Plus I love finding out more about how the races work, and what is happening during a race. Most of the things in this book weren’t new to me, though I did learn that the drivers have a straw inside of their helmet to allow them to drink! I like how the book was at first a bit of a manual on what Formula One is, but then moves on to training, exercises, various days of the Formula One. Like on day 2 there is a time trial. The next day is the race. The text is all easy and well-written. I am sure kids will love this book. Not only does it have fun information about races/Formula One, but it also has cute illustrations that show various things from races/Formula One! I would definitely recommend this book to everyone. Liesbet Slegers (1975, Belgium) studied Graphics and Illustrations at the Saint-Lucas institute of Antwerp. She works as a fulltime graphic designer and illustrator. With her simple, recognizable style and vivid colours she knows how to attract the attention of every toddler. In her many books, Slegers frequently focuses on “the first experience of a toddler,” a time she characterized as “exciting but also very scary! I try to help them with my books,” she added, “and also try to give the parents or teacher some assistance!”
