Gaye originally trained as a general nurse, and then as a psychiatric nurse, but felt she 'saved more lives' by leaving! She retrained as an actor and co-founded a theatre company, whose plays solely focus on health and social care issues. Gaye has produced eight plays, along with co-writing many pieces of theatre for conferences, charities, and the NHS.
